A Job Application Requires A Cover Letter Name

Job Application Tips: Crafting Effective Cover Letters and Resumes

Resume File Naming:

Avoid generic file names like "resume.doc" or "cover-letter.pdf." Instead, personalize the files as follows:

  • First and Last Name: Start with your full name, e.g., "John Doe."
  • Job Description: Optionally include the job title you're applying for, e.g., "Software Engineer."
  • Document Type: Denote the document type clearly, e.g., "Resume" or "Cover Letter."

Example: "John_Doe_Software_Engineer_Resume.pdf"

Cover Letter File Naming:

Use the same naming conventions as for resumes, separating words with either a dash (-) or an underscore (_). For example:

  • "John_Doe-Software_Engineer-Cover_Letter.pdf"
  • "John_Doe_Software_Engineer_Cover-Letter.docx"

Cover Letter Salutation:

Choose a professional salutation, such as:

  • "Dear [Hiring Manager Name],"
  • "Respected [Hiring Manager Name],"
  • "Best regards,"

If you cannot find the hiring manager's name, use a generic salutation like "To the Hiring Team."

Cover Letter Key Elements:

Include the following key elements in your cover letter:

  • Address the hiring manager personally.
  • Introduce yourself and state the position you're applying for.
  • Summarize your relevant qualifications and experience.
  • Highlight how your skills align with the job requirements.
  • State your enthusiasm for the opportunity.
  • Conclude with a call to action.

Cover Letter Closing:

End your cover letter with a closing statement, such as:

  • "Thank you for your time and consideration."
  • "I look forward to hearing from you soon."
  • "Sincerely,"

Your full name should be typed below the closing statement.
